For the past year, Landmark Builders employees have been volunteering to assist Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and their Backpack Programs, partnering with Forsyth Backpack Program, United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church.
Landmark has volunteered over 110 hours, donating their time to assist with unloading and moving boxes of food. The food then gets packed into backpacks which are delivered to children in the area to feed them four full meals over the weekend.
This year, in addition to volunteering time, Landmark Builders will be collecting money to assist the Food Bank in purchasing more food for hungry children in our area.
Hunger in our community is an everyday reality. Food insecurity, the condition of not having regular access to enough nutritious food for a healthy life, is prominent in Northwest NC. 18.3% of the population in North Carolina is food insecure – that is over 1.8 million people. Our state ranks 5th worst among the states for food insecurity. 25.7% of children living in Northwest NC are food insecure – more than 1 in every 4 children.
