Friendly Urgent & Family Care is building a new facility that will double its space.

Friendly Urgent & Family Care in Greensboro is building a new clinic double the size of its existing office as it tries to accommodate more patients.

Carla Jones, the practice's administrator and co-owner, said the clinic's current building at 5409 W. Friendly Ave. is about 3,000 square feet. The owners of that building have leased it to Jones and her husband, co-owner Dr. Enrico Jones, since they purchased the practice in 2004. Carla Jones said the owners weren't open to selling the property, so their options were to build their own office or sign another five-year lease.

"Our patient volumes have been expanding so much, we really needed a larger facility," she said.

The new location at 410 College Road will be about 6,000 square feet and will cost about $1 million to build. Landmark Builders of the Triad is the general contractor on the project.

Tom Gibbs, vice president of construction at Landmark, said the new office will have seven exam rooms and one larger treatment room.

A nurse practitioner and a physician assistant also work with Jones and her husband at Friendly Urgent & Family Care, and the practice will likely hire one more doctor when it moves into its new location.

The practice also recently added "Family" to its name to reflect its shift from only providing urgent care treatment to walk-in patients toward serving as the primary care provider for more patients.

Carla Jones said the practice will also add some new services, such as digital X-ray, once the new space is ready. It will also continue to operate its own laboratory.

Gibbs said Landmark will likely finish construction by late January.
